Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Identities in Orange Is the New Black

Title:

Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Identities in Orange Is the New Black

Author:

Michaela Weiss

Abstract:

The paper analyses the image of various gender identities in the first two seasons of the American Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. The show reflects a variety of social issues related to gender-variant identities in an American prison, including the concept of a woman and access to medical treatment, creating a complex view of what the term “woman” signifies. The main attention is paid to the categories of femme, butch, and transgender, as well as the way they are presented, with the focus on stereotypical or biased imagery.

Keywords:
